FBI Director Kash Patel has announced a significant breakthrough in combating the fentanyl crisis, declaring that the pipeline responsible for creating the deadly drug has been shut down in Mexico and globally. This announcement comes amid a critical agreement between the Trump administration and China, one of the world’s largest illicit drug producers, to halt the flow of fentanyl into Mexico and subsequently the U.S.
According to Patel’s statement, China has agreed to designate all fentanyl precursors within its borders and restrict seven chemical subsidiaries used to produce the lethal drug. The announcement highlights the effectiveness of President Trump’s efforts to cut off the precursor pipelines at their origin, with Patel emphasizing that these measures will dismantle the infrastructure fueling the crisis.
“The effective immediately, President Trump has shut off the pipeline that creates fentanyl that kills tens of thousands of Americans! These substances are now banned and they will no longer be utilized by the Mexican drug trafficking organizations or any other DTOs around the world to make this drug,” Patel stated during a White House press briefing.
The historic deal was secured following Patel’s visit to China, where he met with officials to discuss the fentanyl crisis. The Chinese government agreed to target the precursors, which are essential for producing fentanyl, and control seven chemical subsidiaries. This agreement is described as a crucial step toward ending the annual deaths of around 100,000 Americans attributed to fentanyl.
Patel credited President Trump’s recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, stating that this engagement set the stage for today’s announcement. During his trip to China, Patel met with Chinese Vice Minister of Public Security Xu Datong to discuss law enforcement issues and follow up on key outcomes of the meeting between Trump and Xi in Busan, South Korea.
“This was a historic trip for the FBI and America’s national security – the first time in a decade that an FBI Director has been to China and received an audience with his counterpart to discuss the fentanyl crisis,” Patel said in an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital. “The crisis doesn’t start at America’s borders – it starts with the flow of chemical precursors and the networks that move them. President Trump instructed his team to use all tools at our disposal to work with partners and cut off the precursor pipelines at their origin – and that’s what we accomplished.”
The announcement also highlighted the collaboration between the FBI, the Department of Justice, the Attorney General, and Ambassador Perdue in China. Patel noted that this historic achievement would not have been possible without the tremendous team effort.
“By targeting those flows and dismantling supply chains before they ever reach our hemisphere, we’re saving American lives, strengthening our alliances, and building a secure future,” he added.
The agreement marks a significant shift in efforts to combat fentanyl, with Patel asserting that cutting off the precursors will crush the drug trafficking industry and starve critical deadly drug pipelines fueled by cartels in Mexico.
“This is what real, strong leadership looks like,” said one of the statements shared on social media. “They said it couldn’t be done. Trump just cut the fentanyl artery at the source while Biden’s people spent years pretending to look busy.”
