George Conway, the former conservative lawyer and husband of President Trump’s former Senior Counselor Kellyanne Conway, has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run for Congress in New York City’s 12th Congressional District as a Democrat. The filing is intended to replace retiring Representative Jerry Nadler.

Conway, a longtime critic of President Donald Trump, stated on Monday that he had “already put my money where my mouth is” and would now “lay it all on the line.” He characterized his campaign bid as taking the fight against “Trumpism” into Congress.

The Democratic primary in New York’s 12th District features a field of candidates including former Merrill Lynch managing director Alan Pardee, Jack Schlossberg (a Kennedy family scion and liberal online commentator), state Assemblymen Micah Lasher and Alex Bores, gun safety activist Cameron Kasky, and journalist Jami Floyd.

Conway’s announcement follows his recent decision to leave a podcast after stating he was undertaking “either the stupidest thing I’ve ever done or the best thing.”
