Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry delivered a pointed critique of California Gov. Gavin Newsom during Wednesday’s Dealbook Summit. Berry told the audience she has “zero fs left to give” regarding Newsom’s leadership.

The Monster’s Ball star specifically addressed Newsom after he vetoed what Berry supports, a state menopause bill. Speaking from her perspective on healthcare plans and midlife experiences in both Hollywood and corporate America, Berry stated:

“He’s not going to be governor forever,” Berry commented about Newsom’s recent veto action for the second time.

“Back in my great state of California,” Berry began while explaining that Newsom had vetoed their supported menopause bill “not one, but two years in a row.”

“But he is overlooking women – half the population. And by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either,” Berry added.

Berry’s remarks came before her planned appearance for the summit was scheduled to occur later that day following her speech.

Her comments were layered with personal anecdotes from her life journey and reflections on societal views of aging women. “As a founder, I’m building for myself what I wish I had 10 years ago knowing it will help generations ahead,” Berry explained during her address.

“Speaking for myself in the public arena at 59… we’re simply devalued in this country,” Berry said about her midlife experiences and status as an aging woman. “Our culture thinks that at 59, I am past my prime…”

She continued: “Women are pressured to stay forever young… they think if somehow we manage to look younger than our years, it’s suggested that’s the gold standard of worth.”

“We’re encouraged to contort ourselves,” Berry asserted, adding she personally feels this pressure every day.
