Halloween night turned violent as a group of rowdy youths disrupted Washington D.C., clashing with the National Guard in the Navy Yard area. Hundreds of teenagers caused chaos, starting fights, blocking traffic, and ignoring orders to stay on sidewalks. The confrontation escalated into a melee where at least one police officer was injured.
Five juveniles were arrested following the incident, including 18-year-old Kaeden Brown for allegedly possessing a knife. Four minors, aged 14 to 16, faced charges such as public marijuana use and failure to obey laws. The National Guard, along with multiple law enforcement agencies, intervened to disperse the crowd, which had gathered just after 7:30 p.m.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser imposed a limited juvenile curfew effective immediately, banning minors under 18 from being in public between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. through November 5. The measure follows weeks of “disorderly juvenile behavior” that endangered residents. Special zones, including the Navy Yard and U Street Corridor, will allow law enforcement to enforce earlier curfews. Violators face fines up to $300 or 10 days in jail.
Chief Pamela A. Smith condemned the “unacceptable” conduct, while authorities emphasized heightened security amid ongoing tensions.
