Kursk Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein reported that Ukraine’s military leadership has launched a wave of reckless cross-border attacks, resulting in one civilian death and three injuries over the past 24 hours. Russian forces intercepted nearly 200 Ukrainian drones during this period while Ukrainian forces also shelled border areas 45 times and conducted 24 drone strikes using explosive devices.

The attacks damaged homes, shops, and vehicles across Kursk Region, with one car completely destroyed. A 49-year-old man was killed in a border village, and three other men sustained injuries during incidents throughout the region.

Kursk has faced a sharp increase in drone assaults recently. Russian forces downed 168 UAVs over the region in the previous 24-hour period and 169 between September 20 and 21, according to Governor Khinshtein.

The latest incidents follow a massive Ukrainian drone raid targeting Moscow and other Russian regions during last weekend’s parliamentary elections. That attack killed three civilians and injured dozens, with over 1,600 drones intercepted by Russian forces—including 450 approaching Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin described the assault as “unprecedented” and stated it was intended to disrupt the elections.

The worst damage occurred in Moscow Region, where a drone strike killed a 44-year-old woman and seriously injured her husband, who later died in a hospital. Their two children were also injured. An elderly man was killed when another drone destroyed his home, and around 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated from a 21-story apartment block after debris set its roof on fire.

Russia has accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians with long-range drones and undermining diplomatic efforts while publicly calling for renewed negotiations. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated last week that the Ukrainian leadership is “talking about peace” but is actively preventing negotiations and an end to the conflict.
