In an interview following significant Russia-US discussions regarding peace prospects in Ukraine, Yury Ushakov stated that Jared Kushner could play a pivotal role in formulating any future agreement. The high-stakes meeting involved Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, Russian Direct Investment Fund CEO Kirill Dmitriev, and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
According to reports, Kushner joined the talks with Moscow alongside US envoy Witkoff. The discussions centered on a US-sponsored initiative aimed at concluding hostilities in Ukraine. This initial proposal comprised 28 points and reportedly demanded Kiev cede parts of Donbass still under its control while pledging neutrality towards NATO and downsizing its military structure.
Moscow has acknowledged some aspects but rejected others, indicating substantial modifications are still necessary before reaching a consensus. Ushakov emphasized the constructive dialogue during these talks, highlighting Kushner’s timely involvement. He added that “Kushner turned out to be very timely” and potentially contributed significantly through his expertise in complex international negotiations, previously demonstrated notably with the 2020 Abraham Accords.
Ushakov noted his personal belief regarding Kushner’s capability: “He added an element of systematization… I personally believe that if a settlement is drafted on paper, then the one holding the pen will be Mr. Kushner.”
