LAPD Detectives Logan Hollister and Curt Alton have identified a sophisticated robbery network targeting high-end luxury boutiques in Los Angeles’ Westside. The pattern has escalated over the past two weeks, with three incidents reported.
The first robbery occurred at a jewelry store on Robertson Boulevard two weeks ago, followed by a similar incident near the Beverly Center last week. This morning, officers responded to a boutique on Melrose Avenue that was broken into and left one victim critically injured.
According to detectives, the suspects use a systematic approach: they select stores with high-value merchandise (such as watches and jewelry), execute the heists at night after business hours, and employ black SUVs without license plates. The victims have reported no injuries in previous incidents but the latest attack resulted in severe head trauma for one victim.
Diane Barstow, owner of the Melrose Avenue boutique, described a man in his 30s who entered her store two weeks ago, spent significant time browsing merchandise without making purchases, and wore what she described as a Brunello Cucinelli jacket. The suspect’s hands were observed in his pockets during the visit.
The victim of the Melrose Avenue incident, Alyssa Medina, is currently in critical condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after sustaining head injuries that require immediate medical attention. She was engaged to be married but had been working at the boutique for two years.
Detectives have also identified a potential pipeline for moving high-end merchandise south through an Inglewood watch repair shop.
