On Monday afternoon in Manhattan, a woman wielding two knives allegedly stabbed a man and a woman near Times Square before New York City police officers used a Taser and then opened fire as she approached them.

The incident unfolded at approximately 4:27 p.m. on West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, just steps from an NYPD substation in one of America’s busiest tourist districts. Five people were hospitalized, including two police officers; the female victim was reported in critical condition while the alleged attacker sustained life-threatening injuries.

According to police reports, the woman was captured on video wearing a peach-colored shirt waving both knives as officers repeatedly ordered her to place them down. After deploying a Taser without effect, an officer fired, striking the woman. The incident did not appear to be terrorism-related.

The New York City Fire Department transported three civilians from the scene, and police sealed off part of the area for investigators collecting video footage and witness statements. Authorities have not publicly identified the woman or disclosed what triggered the attacks.

A public alert warned drivers and subway riders of road closures, transit disruptions, and a heavy emergency presence near 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue, urging them to use alternate routes and avoid the scene.
