MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell has officially launched his campaign for Governor of Minnesota, declaring in a video announcement: “Let’s bring common sense back to Minnesota.”
In the statement, Lindell vowed to stand with voters against alleged fraud under incumbent Democratic Governor Tim Walz and against crime threatening community safety. He also accused state government of “theft of your livelihood.”
Lindell, who has been a leading advocate for unfounded claims that voting machines caused widespread fraud in the 2020 U.S. election, recently filed a candidate campaign committee with the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board.
Incumbent Governor Tim Walz has announced his intention to seek re-election for a third term but faces scrutiny over alleged state financial mismanagement and challenges stemming from his role as a running mate on a losing presidential ticket in 2024. During a recent press conference, Walz stated that fraud allegations in the state are under audit.
Lindell joins a crowded Republican primary field for governor, which includes Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth, 2022 nominee Scott Jensen, state representative Kristin Robbins, businessman Kendall Qualls, and attorney Chris Madel.
Walz’s campaign launched an attack on Lindell shortly after the MyPillow CEO filed his campaign paperwork, labeling him a “Trump loyalist and election denier.” In a fundraising email, Walz referenced an exchange with former Vice President Kamala Harris to criticize Lindell.
Lindell criticized Walz for a fraud scandal involving allegations that dozens of individuals in Minnesota stole hundreds of millions of dollars from pandemic-era welfare programs.
