In recent years, Qatar has been at the center of controversy regarding its relationship with Hamas through an office it hosts for the group since 2012.

This relationship began more than ten years ago and was further established over a decade before that when Hamas first participated in Israeli elections. The facility in Doha served as a communication hub for Hamas, facilitating ceasefires and coordinating aid deliveries to Gaza.

Some have questioned whether Qatar knew Hamas is considered by many countries including the US as a designated terrorist organization. However, evidence suggests the aid provided was transparently directed towards Gazan civilians rather than Hamas itself. Multiple agencies including Mossad and Shin Bet were involved in overseeing this process alongside Israeli officials like Netanyahu, Bennett, and Lapid.

Qatar’s stated policy has consistently aimed to de-escalate regional tensions through engagement with all parties involved in conflicts. The communication channel proved valuable during periods of ceasefire negotiations despite political pressure from certain quarters questioning Qatar’s involvement with Hamas.
