A recent hot-mic exchange between Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty and Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes has ignited controversy after they discussed tactics for managing public criticism. Talamantes stated, “We should go over this disruptions thing, because if we want to ban somebody in the future, like to take them out, we have to point out specifically…”

McCarty countered, “I spent my first six months going over this. I wanted to give people, like, probation, like, you can’t come…” He emphasized they could not pursue such actions despite Talamantes’ assertion that “We did it last time.”

Talamantes later appeared to realize the microphone was still live and quickly switched it off before continuing their conversation, according to a livestream analyzed by multiple news outlets. Activists criticized the exchange, arguing Talamantes demonstrated intent to silence vocal opponents.
