Text messages between Tyler Robinson, an alleged assassin, and his live-in boyfriend have been disclosed, revealing a disturbing account of his actions. In one exchange, the roommate reacts to a note with disbelief: “What?????????????????? You’re joking, right????” Robinson responds, “I am still ok my love, but am stuck in Orem for a little while longer yet. Shouldn’t be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still.” He adds, “To be honest I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you.”
The roommate asks, “You weren’t the one who did it, right????” Robinson replies, “No, they grabbed some crazy old dude, then interrogated someone in similar clothing.” He details his plan to retrieve a rifle from a “drop point” but expresses concern over a locked-down area and a lingering vehicle. “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out,” he writes. Robinson mentions leaving the rifle wrapped in a towel and worries about explaining its loss to his father, who is described as a staunch MAGA supporter.
The messages also include references to a $2,000 scope and a request for photos of the rifle, which was reportedly photographed by federal authorities. Robinson later states he plans to turn himself in, noting a neighbor is a deputy. He urges his roommate to avoid media interactions and remain silent if questioned.
Utah County prosecutors reviewed the texts live on Fox News, calling the narrative “hard to believe.” Critics drew comparisons to conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11, questioning the plausibility of Robinson’s claims amid a major manhunt.
