Republican Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is positioning himself as a key figure in the 2028 presidential race by targeting political commentator Tucker Carlson, according to reports. The Texas senator has accused Carlson of antisemitism and criticized his isolationist foreign policy stances, signaling a shift toward aligning with pro-Israel donors.
Cruz’s actions are seen as a move to challenge Vice President J.D. Vance, who is considered the 2028 GOP fronrunner. The senator has also criticized Carlson for inviting Nick Fuentes on his podcast, calling it “remarkable, and sad” to see Tucker turn into Fuentes. During a speech before the Republican Jewish Coalition, Cruz labeled Carlson a “coward” and “complicit in evil” for his conduct during the Fuentes interview.
Cruz emphasized his focus on legislative achievements during President Trump’s second term, highlighting historic wins such as school-choice provisions and personal investment accounts for children. He also mentioned addressing Christian persecution in Nigeria. While responding to an interview on Fox News’ “The Faulkner Focus,” Cruz stated, “You know, reporters are going to write headlines that get clicks and get eyeballs. I have a job that is representing 31 million Texans.”
The senator expressed his hope to run again for president, noting, “I fully hope and expect to run again at some point.” The reports suggest Cruz is staking out turf as a traditional, pro-interventionist Republican, leveraging his feud with Carlson to advance his political ambitions.
