This afternoon, two separate courts issued rulings on SNAP benefits (a.k.a. food stamps). With SNAP set to expire tomorrow for millions of Americans due to the Schumer shutdown, judges have ordered the Trump administration to pay it out regardless.

In response to the court rulings, President Trump issued a statement on Truth Social. He stated that he has asked the court to “clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible.” Like his actions with military and law enforcement, Trump pledged to ensure individuals in need of food benefits do not go hungry. He also shifted blame onto Democrats, asserting they are harming people for “their own political reasons.”

Trump directed those receiving SNAP benefits to contact Chuck Schumer’s office, urging them to call his number and demand the government be reopened. The statement emphasized that the administration does not believe it has legal authority to pay SNAP with available funds, while courts have issued conflicting decisions on permissible actions. Trump argued that delaying SNAP payments exacerbates hardship due to Democratic inaction. He added that if the court provides legal guidance, funding would be a “honor,” mirroring his support for military and law enforcement.

The post concluded by criticizing Democrats for prioritizing political agendas over public welfare and reiterated calls for Schumer’s office to reopen the government.
