Amid the government shutdown, the USDA uncovered widespread fraud within the SNAP program. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins revealed during an appearance on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle that over 5,000 deceased individuals are receiving SNAP benefits, alongside 500,000 people receiving it twice under the same name. This was confirmed in twenty-nine states, with the actual numbers across all 50 states potentially even more alarming.
Rollins emphasized that the SNAP program, designed to provide temporary assistance to those facing hardship, has become a significant burden on taxpayers. The program costs $100 billion annually, benefiting roughly 42 million people, many of whom are able-bodied Americans who could work but choose not to.
A reform plan is imminent, with Rollins stating, “Very big announcements coming next week.” The focus remains on addressing systemic issues, ensuring proper vetting for future applications.
