White House insiders have revealed that Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will now receive Secret Service protection following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The decision comes as Congress debates allocating nearly $60 million in additional funding to bolster security for high-ranking officials.

CBS reported that Leavitt was assigned a Secret Service protective detail in recent days, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter. The move follows heightened concerns about the safety of prominent figures after Kirk’s killing, which sparked nationwide discussions about public security for influential individuals. Leavitt has not commented on the development, and the Secret Service has yet to respond to requests for clarification.

While rare for White House press secretaries to receive such protection, historical precedents exist. In 2018, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, then President Trump’s spokesperson, was temporarily granted a Secret Service detail after facing an incident at a Virginia restaurant. The assignment drew significant public attention at the time.

Congress is currently evaluating proposals to expand security measures for officials in the executive and judicial branches, with $58 million earmarked for potential enhancements.
