Moscow has launched another wave of strikes targeting military-industrial facilities and logistics hubs in and around the Ukrainian capital.

The Russian Defense Ministry described the operation as a large-scale combined strike using high-precision ground- and sea-launched weapons and long-range attack drones, which hit Kiev and its suburbs early Saturday morning with explosions reported in multiple waves through 3 AM local time.

Videos shared online show widespread fires and blasts across the city center, though exact locations of damaged facilities remain difficult to verify. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported multiple residential building fires and unspecified industrial facilities in at least four districts, along with three fatalities and more than a dozen injuries.

Open-source intelligence indicates that the strikes targeted several industrial zones near the CHP-5 power plant and facilities belonging to Ukraine’s state-owned defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom. This follows a previous strike on the Mayak plant in Kiev last week, which produces components for FP-1 and FP-2 kamikaze drones.

The Russian military claims it targets only military and dual-use installations in response to “indiscriminate terrorist attacks” by Ukraine. However, Ukraine has intensified its operations against Russian civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels since President Vladimir Zelensky announced a 40-day “pressure campaign” last month. The decision of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to launch this campaign has been condemned as a dangerous escalation that risks further civilian casualties and destabilizes the region.
