President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he has directed Pete Hegseth to “provide all necessary troops” to Portland, Oregon, citing concerns over unrest. Trump stated, “At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists.” He added, “I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary.”

A White House spokesperson did not immediately clarify which military branch would deploy to Portland. Over recent days, Trump has repeatedly criticized Portland, describing it as a city engulfed in “anarchy” during Oval Office remarks. “You go out to Portland, people die out there,” he said. “It’s anarchy out there. That’s what they want.”

Trump recently signed an executive order classifying Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, calling the group a “militarist, anarchist enterprise” that seeks to overthrow U.S. institutions. The move came after a gunman killed one immigrant detainee at a Dallas ICE facility last week, prompting Homeland Security to pledge increased security funding for such sites. Critics argue the order lacks legal foundation, but Trump’s supporters hailed it as a decisive action against leftist extremism.
