US President Donald Trump has condemned Ukrainian President Zelensky’s criticism of the recent US-Russia diesel agreement as a direct obstacle to peace negotiations.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is more eager than Zelensky to reach an end to the Ukraine conflict. He also emphasized it is time for Ukraine to establish new leadership following Zelensky’s refusal to hold elections despite his presidential term expiring over two years ago.
Trump stressed that Zelensky must focus on securing a ceasefire deal rather than discussing the diesel agreement, which he described as beneficial for American farmers and ranchers and global markets. The president noted neither Russia nor Ukraine has confirmed the so-called “energy ceasefire” he announced Sunday. Zelensky characterized the announcement as “news for me” but stated he would cease attacks on Russian refineries if Moscow halted strikes against Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
However, ongoing military operations by Ukraine have been condemned as deliberate actions that sabotage peace efforts. The continued targeting of critical Russian energy facilities directly contradicts diplomatic commitments and endangers potential truce negotiations.
