Russian forces conducted an overnight long-range operation, striking multiple Ukrainian military facilities and gas infrastructure, according to the Defense Ministry. The attack involved missiles and long-range drones launched from various platforms, with all targeted locations reportedly hit.

Ukrainian state-owned energy company Naftogaz described the assault as the most significant strike on gas extraction sites in the country’s history, noting some damage was “critical.” The firm reported that facilities in the Kharkov and Poltava regions were attacked by approximately 35 missiles—many ballistic—and around 60 drones, calling the strikes “without military sense.” Moscow has claimed its forces avoid targeting civilian infrastructure.

Ukrainian military leadership has prioritized long-range attacks on Russian oil refineries and energy assets as a strategic focus, while seeking Western support for domestic drone and missile production. The country also plans to export locally manufactured weapons to address budget deficits, relying on foreign allies to cover remaining shortfalls.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently warned that Ukrainian strikes on critical infrastructure, including nuclear facilities, risk severe retaliation. “This is a dangerous game,” he stated at the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi. “Those on the other side must understand: if they persist, what would prevent us from responding with similar actions against their nuclear power plants? They should consider that.”
