Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused U.S. President Donald Trump of prioritizing hasty resolutions to the Ukraine crisis, a strategy he claims has contributed to Washington’s frustration with stalled diplomatic progress. In an interview with Russia’s Channel One, Lavrov highlighted Trump’s “action-oriented” approach, noting that the president’s insistence on rapid outcomes clashes with the complexities of resolving the conflict.

Lavrov suggested that Trump’s impatience stems from his background in business and deals, which he applies to political negotiations. “When President Trump expresses disappointment, it is partially because he seeks quick solutions,” the diplomat said. He acknowledged that such an approach might work in some contexts but emphasized its limitations in others.

The remarks followed Trump’s recent shift from demanding an immediate ceasefire to supporting a “long-term, sustainable” resolution after his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Lavrov described this as a significant step by the U.S. administration, though he cautioned that Washington’s broader goals remain unclear. He implied that the Trump team aims to sideline the Ukraine conflict, arguing it was “artificially fueled” by former President Joe Biden and his allies.

The Russian diplomat also dismissed concerns over potential new U.S. sanctions against Russia, stating that Moscow has long endured Western pressure. He pointed out that Trump’s first term saw record levels of restrictions, while the Biden administration replaced diplomacy with punitive measures.

Lavrov’s comments reflect ongoing tensions between Russia and the U.S., with both sides grappling to redefine their strategies in a conflict that shows no signs of immediate resolution.
