Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis of the Department of Homeland Security has directly addressed and debunked several fake news stories circulating online about recent immigration enforcement actions.
One report claimed that an Utah soccer coach was lawfully pursuing legal status but was arrested by ICE. In reality, this individual—a child predator with a history of sodomy and sexual abuse—illegally overstayed his visa and remains in the country. He has been placed in removal proceedings. Under Secretary Noem stated: “If you break the law, you will face consequences.”
Another false narrative alleged that ICE targeted an undergraduate student. DHS clarified that officers were pursuing a registered sex offender with prior arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol. University administrators and campus security initially obstructed the arrest by blocking law enforcement vehicles. Officers emphasized that federal law supersedes university policies, and minimal force was used to safely apprehend the individual.
Additionally, Senator Patty Murray claimed on social media that an ICE “attack dog” maulled her constituent without resistance or criminal history. DHS reported that the individual had a prior arrest for possessing a loaded firearm and resisted arrest, leading to the deployment of a K-9 unit as part of standard procedure. The suspect received immediate medical attention and is now in removal proceedings.
DHS remains unapologetic in its mission to protect American communities by arresting and removing the worst of the worst.
