Two 15-year-old suspects accused of violently attacking Edward Coristine, known as “Big Balls,” during an attempted carjacking in Washington, D.C., have faced new charges following their initial release by a Biden judge. The incident, which occurred around 3 a.m. in early August, involved the teens approaching Coristine and his girlfriend near their vehicle, according to police. The victims were assaulted, and the perpetrators allegedly tried to steal the car.
The case gained national attention after former President Donald Trump shared graphic images of Coristine’s injuries on social media, condemning the violence and urging federal intervention in D.C. “We just almost lost a young man… we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City,” Trump stated at the time. However, the teens were released by a Biden-appointed judge despite the severity of the alleged crimes.
The two minors, whose identities remain undisclosed due to their age, now face additional charges including assault and robbery. The female defendant was arraigned on two counts of simple assault, while the male defendant faced three counts of simple assault, one count of felony assault, and a robbery charge. A judge ordered the girl to return home under a 24-hour curfew, while the boy remains with his parents.
The case’s next steps are uncertain, as preliminary plea discussions were mentioned at a recent hearing. The trial, initially set for late September, may be delayed further. Legal proceedings remain opaque, with details like police bodycam footage restricted from public access.
The attack and subsequent legal developments have reignited debates over justice and accountability in the nation’s capital.
