LONDON – A sudden, dramatic collapse occurred during a live television broadcast when British sports presenter Laura Woods fell ill while covering a major women’s soccer fixture. The presenter, 38, experienced an unexplained health issue during the England vs. Ghana match in the United Kingdom.
Quickly reacting to the situation, former Arsenal player Ian Wright and fellow broadcaster Anita Asante stepped forward to catch Ms. Woods as she went down during the program on ITV.
According to reports from Deadline, Katie Shanahan took over the coverage when it resumed later, confirming that Laura had been “taken ill.” Shanahan also mentioned that Woods was placed in “very good hands.”
Ms. Woods’ fiancé, Adam Collard, a former Love Island star himself, shared her status update on social media, stating simply via X (Twitter) that she was “all ok” and assured fans of the paramedics’ care.
In an Instagram Story posted Tuesday, Ms. Woods explained feeling embarrassed about the incident but credited her colleagues at ITV for their support that evening. She stated needing rest and hydration, potentially due to a virus according to paramedics from St. Mary’s (Saints), adding: “I’m really embarrassed that happened on tv… Thank you my colleagues at ITV… And Wrighty & Neets.”
