Kamala Harris revealed that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was not her initial choice for vice president in the 2024 presidential election. According to an excerpt from her upcoming book, “107 Days,” Harris had initially favored Pete Buttigieg as her running mate. She described Buttigieg as a “sincere public servant” who could present liberal ideas in a way that resonated with conservatives. However, Harris ultimately selected Walz, and the pair lost the election to former President Donald Trump, failing to win the popular vote, Electoral College, or any swing states.
In her book, Harris expressed admiration for Buttigieg, calling him “a friend” and praising his ability to bridge political divides. She also addressed her decision to support Biden’s 2024 reelection bid, stating that she avoided urging him to withdraw due to concerns it would appear self-serving. Meanwhile, Buttigieg has emerged as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, with recent surveys showing he trails Harris but remains a prominent figure in Democratic politics.
