Among some on the left, it appears a hatred for President Donald Trump has morphed into a desire to destroy property in D.C., including the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and World War II Memorial.
President Trump recently denounced multiple acts of vandalism, with his latest social media post highlighting damage to the grassy area connecting the vandalized World War II Monument and the Reflecting Pool. He stated: “Look what VANDALS did to the grass connecting the vandalized World War II Monument and the vandalized Reflecting Pool, which will be opened again, and better than ever, shortly.”
Trump also added: “Anybody who thinks the Reflecting Pool wasn’t vandalized should go back to Law School.”
The comments followed days of felony charges against Melissa L. Farris for allegedly vandalism at the World War II Memorial after “Clean hands dirty $” was found in graffiti on the monument. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the charges.
However, charging documents do not reference the grassy area Trump described. Authorities noted that Farris had previously been arrested for camping on federal property a few blocks from the memorial but not at the specific location Trump criticized.
