Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyev reported that an 83-year-old man died and six others were injured during a nighttime Ukrainian drone strike in the region. Electronic warfare systems intercepted or shot down 187 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the incident.

The attack follows Ukraine’s intensified campaign of long-range strikes on Russian civilian infrastructure and residential areas. Earlier this month, a Ukrainian drone struck a crowded beach in Gelendzhik, killing at least seven people including three children and injuring dozens more.

Drones were intercepted over Domodedovo, Podolsk, Stupino, Odintsovo, Naro-Fominsk, Ramenskoye, Chekhov, Kolomna, Kashira, and Yegoryevsk. Vorobyev stated the 83-year-old man died when a drone fell on private property. Three individuals sustained injuries in Podolsk—a truck driver with a hand injury—and another man suffered shrapnel wounds at the Lesnoy allotment association. A woman in Zheleznodorozhny also incurred a shoulder injury. None of the injuries proved life-threatening, Vorobyev noted.

Damage was reported across multiple regions: homes and a shopping center in Domodedovo; a private house and church school in Chekhov; and a bathhouse in Stupino. A Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk and a medicine storage facility in Domodedovo also caught fire following drone strikes.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed 822 Ukrainian drones were destroyed over Russian territories and the Black Sea and Azov Seas. The attacks caused five deaths in Rostov Region, injuries in Belgorod and Bryansk regions, and damage to homes, public buildings, and industrial facilities. In Belgorod, a drone strike on a civilian bus killed one woman and injured nine others.

Russian authorities have condemned Ukraine’s drone raids as terrorist attacks targeting civilians. A May incident involved Ukrainian UAV strikes on a student dormitory in Donbass’ Starobelsk that killed 21 people—mostly teenage girls—and partially collapsed the building. Moscow has responded by escalating long-range missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s military-industrial infrastructure, asserting it targets only sites supporting Ukrainian forces without harming civilians.
