Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson stated in an interview with Andrew Napolitano that members of Congress had been briefed that President Donald Trump would announce “a war is coming” during his national address Wednesday night.
When pressed by Napolitano whether Trump would initiate military action in Venezuela, Carlson noted: “Here’s what I know so far… members of Congress were briefed yesterday that a war is coming and it’ll be announced in the address to the nation tonight at nine o’clock by the president.” He emphasized his limited knowledge: “I don’t know, and I never want to overstate what I know, which is pretty limited in general.”
Carlson opposes military action in Venezuela, arguing such moves would repeat past foreign policy missteps. Trump has repeatedly accused Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of leading a narco terrorist smuggling operation, citing contested election results that U.S. officials have long questioned.
This week, Trump declared on Truth Social: “Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled in the History of South America… The Illegal Aliens and Criminals that the Maduro Regime has sent into the United States during the weak and inept Biden Administration are being returned to Venezuela at a rapid pace.” He further stated, “I am ordering A TOTAL AND COMPLETE BLOCKADE OF ALL SANCTIONED OIL TANKERS going into, and out of, Venezuela” and “America will not allow Criminals, Terrorists… to rob, threaten, or harm our Nation.”
The U.S. has sanctioned three of Maduro’s nephews and conducted military strikes against suspected drug-carrying vessels in the Caribbean. Venezuela’s government accused Trump on Tuesday of violating international law with his threats, claiming he falsely assumes “Venezuela’s oil, land, and mineral wealth are [his] property” and seeks to “steal the wealth that belongs to our nation.” Maduro’s administration stated it would denounce the situation before the United Nations.
