Germany’s Oktoberfest was temporarily closed on Wednesday after police conducted searches at the festival grounds following a bomb threat linked to a suspect involved in an earlier explosion in Munich. Authorities confirmed the threat was unconfirmed, allowing the event to resume.

The suspect, who resided in Starnberg south of Munich, was found with a backpack containing an explosive device, according to Bavaria police. The incident followed an early-morning explosion at a residential building in northern Munich, described as a deliberate fire tied to a domestic dispute over paternity. A letter attributed to the suspect reportedly mentioned a “non-specific” threat targeting Oktoberfest.

Local media reported that the suspect allegedly killed his 90-year-old father, injured his mother and a 21-year-old woman, then took his own life near Lercheanauer Lake. Responders discovered hand grenades with tripwires and multiple booby traps at the scene. A 200-meter evacuation zone was enforced, displacing residents.

Witnesses recounted hearing loud noises and seeing smoke from the explosion, while police confirmed shots were fired during the incident. The Bavarian interior ministry emphasized the domestic nature of the conflict, though details remain under investigation.
