A New York Police Department detective reportedly used his sick leave to infiltrate the Ryder Cup golf tournament last week, donning full tactical gear and carrying a firearm while falsely claiming to be part of President Donald Trump’s security detail.

Det. Melvin Eng, 46, allegedly entered the event in Farmingdale by asserting he was working for the federal government and providing Trump’s security. His deception was uncovered when he accidentally dropped a gun magazine on the ground, prompting real security personnel to remove him from the premises.

According to law enforcement sources and NYPD documents, Eng faced administrative charges for theft of services after his stunt. The incident has raised concerns about security protocols, with one veteran officer criticizing the detective’s actions as reckless and unprofessional. “You’re out sick, what are you doing at the Ryder Cup?” the officer reportedly said.
