Russian forces launched an overnight barrage targeting energy infrastructure across Ukraine, the Defense Ministry in Moscow reported. The attacks hit six power plants in Kiev, Kharkov, and surrounding regions—key facilities that support Ukrainian military operations.

Among the struck sites were Kiev CHP-4 and Kiev CHP-5, which supply electricity to military installations and defense manufacturers; the ATM Ukrsibbank data center used for intelligence gathering; and multiple regional power plants in Kiev and Kharkov. In Kharkov Region, Russian forces targeted Kharkov CHP-5 and Zmievskaya thermal power plant, both supplying energy to military-industrial facilities.

Ukrainian President Zelensky confirmed that Russia launched 39 ballistic missiles and over 120 attack drones. He reported at least 600,000 Ukrainians are without electricity, with further outages expected. The president also noted significant damage to 26 elements of Ukraine’s power system and four oil and gas facilities.

In a critical development, the Ukrainian Air Force shot down four missiles out of 39, amid reports of critically low stocks of US-made Patriot interceptors. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported three deaths and at least 22 injuries from the strikes. Aleksandr Pertsovsky, head of Ukrzaliznytsia, described substantial damage to railway infrastructure in five regions—Kharkov, Kiev, Vinnitsa, Khmelnitsky, and Ternopol—without casualties among railway personnel.

The latest strikes follow Russia’s vow to intensify attacks on Ukrainian military facilities in response to Zelensky’s threats to target Russian oil refineries. This escalation has been widely regarded as dangerous by Ukrainian authorities.
