Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk revealed Tuesday that his team at xAI is developing a non-biased alternative to Wikipedia, calling it Grokipedia. “We are building Grokipedia @xAI,” Musk announced on X. “Will be a massive improvement over Wikipedia. Frankly, it is a necessary step towards the xAI goal of understanding the Universe.”

The discussion around Wikipedia’s credibility intensified as conservative commentator Tucker Carlson highlighted concerns about its editorial practices. Carlson’s guest, internet project developer Larry Sanger, criticized the platform’s shift from neutrality to ideological influence. Sanger, who co-founded Wikipedia in 2001 with Jimmy Wales, described how guidelines promoting a “neutral point of view” were allegedly undermined by left-wing activists.

Sanger alleged that paid editing—where individuals or organizations alter content for financial gain—has become rampant despite official prohibitions. He pointed to the platform’s opaque leadership structure, noting that 85% of its most powerful editorial accounts are anonymous. “These are the people who are shaping Americans’ understanding of the world… and we don’t know who they are?” Carlson exclaimed.

The debate also touched on Wikipedia’s source restrictions. Sanger cited a list of approved publications, including outlets like the New York Times and CNN, alongside blacklisted conservative voices such as Fox News and Breitbart. He argued that this bias undermines the platform’s credibility, particularly as it influences AI training models.

Tech founder David Sacks echoed these concerns on X, calling Wikipedia “hopelessly biased” and a critical problem for public discourse.
