Federal agents were attacked during operations in Chicago today, with Border Patrol personnel working in a suburb as part of DHS’s “Operation Midway Blitz” ambushed by nearly a dozen vehicles. The agents’ vehicles were pinned in, forcing them to exit and confront the assault on foot. A DHS spokesperson confirmed that one of the attackers was armed with a semi-automatic weapon and was fired upon by the agents, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated reinforcements were “on the way” following the incident. The attack occurred in Broadview, Illinois, where anti-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) crowds had gathered for days. Agents described being rammed and boxed in by 10 cars during a routine patrol. A woman accused of driving one of the vehicles was identified as having previously been flagged by Customs and Border Patrol for doxing agents and inciting violence online.

The armed individual, a U.S. citizen, allegedly targeted agents with threats, including statements like “Hey to all my gang let’s fuck those mother fuckers up.” Despite the attack, no law enforcement officers suffered serious injuries. The Chicago Fire Department reported transporting the wounded suspect to a hospital, though DHS initially stated she drove herself there.

DHS highlighted tensions with local authorities, noting that Chicago Police Department officers left the scene instead of aiding federal agents. A crowd gathered in response, leading to the deployment of special operations to manage the area. The incident has intensified concerns over escalating violence against law enforcement, with officials warning of potential further confrontations.
