Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler has started serving a four-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to driving under the influence. The former Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears player was arrested in Franklin, Tennessee, last October following a minor traffic collision. Police reported that he rear-ended another vehicle and allegedly attempted to flee the scene by offering the other driver $2,000 not to call law enforcement. Court documents state Cutler exhibited bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, initially denying alcohol consumption before admitting to drinking “a little bit.” He faced charges of DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

Cutler accepted a plea deal in late August that would have dismissed the gun charge if he surrendered the weapon, but authorities reported he was booked into jail on Monday for DUI, violation of implied consent law, failure to exercise due care, and the firearm charge. In addition to the jail term, his driver’s license was revoked, and he will serve one year of supervised probation, including random drug tests, along with a $350 fine.

The former quarterback has been an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump since 2016, stating in August that he “liked where it’s going” after the election results. Cutler was the first Bears player to publicly endorse Trump during his 2016 campaign.
