President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that National Guard troops have been deployed to Oregon to restore order amid violent anti-ICE demonstrations. The president revealed the Guard’s deployment on Saturday, stating on Truth Social that he had “provided all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists.” Trump emphasized his authorization of “Full Force, if necessary,” in response to ongoing clashes.

Left-wing agitators have besieged an ICE facility in Portland since June, with city officials allegedly supporting their actions by issuing land use violation notices to hinder operations. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek (D) denied the necessity of federal intervention during a Saturday press conference, asserting, “There is no insurrection. There is no threat to national security, and there is no need for military troops in our major city.” Kotek and Portland Mayor Keith Wilson (D) have faced criticism for their backing of anti-ICE protesters, who have engaged in violent confrontations, including attacks on media representatives.

Independent journalist Katie Daviscourt described being assaulted by an Antifa activist outside the ICE facility, with the suspect fleeing to a “safe house” near the site. Portland Police did not make an arrest, according to Daviscourt’s account. The journalist later told host Jack Posobiec on Human Events Live that Trump’s National Guard deployment was “needed,” citing the city’s failure to address the chaos.

Trump reiterated his stance on Wednesday, claiming federal law enforcement in Oregon had been overwhelmed by “ANTIFA and the Radical Left Anarchists” who “viciously attack[ed] our Federal Law Enforcement Officers.” He criticized Governor Kotek for downplaying the crisis, calling Portland a “NEVER-ENDING DISASTER” and insisting, “LAW AND ORDER MUST PREVAIL IN OUR CITIES.”
