The Netherlands has moved to declare Antifa a terrorist organization, mirroring President Trump’s action. A motion sponsored by Lidewij de Vos (FvD), Caroline van der Plas (BBB), and Geert Wilders (PVV) passed in the lower house of the Dutch Parliament with support from other parties. The sponsors claim Antifa cells operate in the country, targeting politicians and using violence. Despite anti-terrorism agencies noting left-wing extremism is fragmented, Hungary’s Prime Minister Orbán also announced plans to label Antifa as a terrorist group, referencing a 2023 incident involving antifascist activists.
Trump announced on Truth Social he was designating Antifa a “terrorist organization,” citing its “sick, dangerous, radical left disaster” and vowing investigations into those funding it. Orbán, a right-wing populist and Trump ally, praised the move, stating Antifa is a terrorist group and urging Hungary to follow the U.S. example. The decision followed a 2023 incident in Budapest where antifascist activists clashed with far-right participants, leading to arrests and diplomatic tensions.
