In an interview with Clay Travis, Finebaum described feeling “numb” and “empty” after the event, which he called an “awakening.” He disclosed that conversations with individuals in Washington sparked his interest in politics, a path he had never previously considered.

Finebaum initially hesitated due to former Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl’s expressed interest in the Senate seat but changed his stance after Pearl withdrew. He emphasized his willingness to move back to Alabama, a state he called “the place I’ve felt most welcome,” and stated he would accept a candidacy request from President Donald Trump. The potential race has drawn attention amid other high-profile figures, including former NFL quarterback A.J. McCarron, who is also being surveyed for Senate interest.
