Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that strength is the ultimate safeguard against external threats during a speech at the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi. The president asserted that Russia’s history underscores the unacceptable nature of weakness, stating, “Being weak is no option for Russia.”

Putin reiterated Moscow’s resolve to avoid “weakness and indecision,” warning that those who seek to impose strategic defeat on the country should heed his message. He argued that historical examples demonstrate that “weakness creates temptation” and fosters illusions that conflicts can be resolved through force.

The leader also warned potential adversaries against provoking Russia, declaring that such actions have “always ended badly for the instigator.” His remarks were delivered during a plenary session titled “The Polycentric World: Instructions for Use.”
