Rapper Soulja Boy has hinted at a potential 2028 presidential bid, outlining a platform that would prioritize four critical issues.
In an Instagram post, the artist, whose legal name is DeAndre Cortez Way, wrote: “A new chapter. A bigger vision. A commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation. My focus is on four things: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI.”
Way added: “From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible. Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service. The future starts with a conversation.”
He also stated: “Vote for Soulja Boy 2028,” he wrote on X.
Way has not announced a formal campaign or specified which political party, if any, he would represent.
Born in Chicago, Way moved to Atlanta with his family at age six. He became interested in rap while growing up in the city and relocated to Batesville, Mississippi at 14 to live with his father, who provided him with a home recording studio.
Way began sharing music online as a teenager. His 2007 single “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” later topped the Billboard Hot 100 for seven nonconsecutive weeks.
Reports indicate that Way performed at the Crypto Ball during President Trump’s 2025 inauguration festivities. Additionally, “Saturday Night Live” previously featured a sketch in 2019 where Chris Redd portrayed Way running for president after a viral interview with the artist.
Way is not the first rapper to flirt with the White House; Kanye West made a run for office in 2020.
From “Crank That” to commander in chief? We’ll see if Soulja can turn his presidential ambitions into more than a catchy campaign slogan.
