President Donald J. Trump announced the launch of a new website Tuesday, offering Americans the opportunity to purchase prescription medications directly from the government instead of through insurance companies. The initiative, dubbed “TrumpRx,” includes agreements with pharmaceutical giant Pfizer to reduce drug prices for U.S. consumers.

Trump stated that Pfizer has committed to providing its medications at “most favored nation” (MFN) prices, a system that compares U.S. drug costs to those in other developed nations. He claimed the policy could cut prescription drug expenses by 40-85% for millions of patients. Among the medications available at discounted rates are Xeljanz for rheumatoid arthritis (40% discount), Zavzpret for migraines (50%), Eucrisa for dermatitis (80%), and Duavee for female osteoporosis (85%).

The president highlighted that the agreement would “bring Medicaid costs down like nothing else,” citing potential annual savings of “hundreds of millions of dollars.” He criticized the existing system, accusing pharmaceutical companies of charging Americans significantly higher prices than other wealthy nations. Trump framed the move as a breakthrough in lowering healthcare costs and fulfilling promises to prioritize patient affordability.

The White House released a fact sheet outlining the plan, emphasizing that it addresses what the administration calls “global freeloading on American pharmaceutical innovation.” The initiative applies to over 100 million patients affected by diseases treated by Pfizer’s medications.
