It was the admission heard globally when Jill Biden stated during a recent interview that she feared her husband had suffered a stroke during his disastrous 2024 debate performance against President Donald Trump.
This revelation starkly contrasts with her immediate, celebratory reaction to the event. The discrepancy has drawn criticism from across the political spectrum in recent days.
Former Jill Biden spokesman Michael LaRosa accused the former first lady of attempting to “change the tape” after she revealed in an interview that she feared President Biden was having a stroke during his debate performance.
LaRosa said: “They’re trying to change the tape in people’s minds about who she is… that’s why she’s sort of changing her tune a little bit about her reaction in real time. She wants to say, ‘Oh no, my reaction was just as concerning and was just as severe as everyone at home. I was shocked.’”
Jill Biden’s comments, along with the midterm-aligned timing of her memoir release, have fueled widespread disapproving social media content.
Commentator Stephen A. Smith described the situation in a recent radio interview: “That last part really, really disturbed me, and it really bothered me,” he told former Governor Andrew Cuomo, referring to Jill Biden’s admission.
Smith noted that immediately after the debate, Jill had congratulated her husband during a campaign stop, saying, “Joe, you did such a great job. You answered every question, you knew all the facts.”
Smith criticized: “At that time, his wife comes out and she applauds his effort, and she said he was wonderful and he answered all the questions.” He added that her statements have fueled narratives that Democrats are “dishonest, not forthcoming, not open and always trying to find a way to manipulate and dictate a narrative.”
Smith further stated: “They had an opportunity to push him out and to position themselves to have a primary where a viable candidate to go up against Donald Trump would have been.” He argued that the timing of her comments has raised questions about her consistency.
